Green Computing

Green computing, also referred to as green IT, is the practice of environmentally responsible and eco-friendly use of computing resources. The term “green computing” first appeared shortly after the “Energy Star” program was announced in 1992.

In its most basic form, green computing is the reduction of technology’s environmental effect. This includes energy efficiency, reducing waste, and promoting sustainability. Its purpose is to reduce carbon footprint. Green computing is critical for all types of systems and many corporate IT departments have green computing initiatives to reduce the environmental effect of their IT operations.

Benefits of Green Computing

Green computing is extremely cost-effective, allowing people to save money in the long run. Because a green IT solution saves a lot of energy, it also leads to significant financial advantages. Green technology makes use of shifting government policies to encourage recycling and eliminates the danger that is present in the laptop, such as chemicals known to cause cancer or nerve damage, and so on.

Some clients are so worried about the environment that they will only do business with businesses that go green. Green computing has the ability to create public images in order to boost its brand and market position all over the world. Also, green IT allows users to reduce the environmental impact of pollution to some extent.

Green Computing practices

Energy-efficient and e-waste are two major techniques involved in green computing. A green IT strategy’s primary goals may be as follows:

  • investing in green energy,
  • reducing energy consumption,
  • reducing carbon emissions,
  • lowering the amount of paper and printer usage,
  • lowering the amount of electronic waste,
  • minimizing employee and customer travel needs.
